Abdulaziz Ahmed Abdulaziz Humanitarian Foundation sponsored World Sight Day 2019, organized by the National Prevention of Blindness Committee (NPBC) on October 10, 2019, with “Vision First” as this year’s call to action.
World Sight Day is celebrated globally on the second Thursday of every October, to develop health awareness in society and spread the culture of periodic eye testing and follow-up treatment for eye diseases to reduce blindness and visual impairment. This campaign falls in line with the World Health Organization’s international plan of action to prevent avoidable blindness and visual impairment.
The theme “Vision First” was adopted for this year’s awareness activities to emphasize the value of sight and the importance of eye health and care everywhere in society, as well as the importance of joint work in providing comprehensive eye care to combat blindness and eye diseases, with a specific focus on regular eye check-ups.
